A Georgetown woman died Saturday when she was struck by a car, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Edna Thompson, 60, died late Saturday according to the Georgetown County Coroner’s Office.
Thompson was in the roadway and wearing dark clothing when she was hit by a car headed south near 2335 Highmarket Street about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Bob Beres with highway patrol.
Three passengers and the driver of the 2008 Nissan Altima involved in the crash were transported to Georgetown Memorial Hospital. All four were wearing seatbelts when the crash occurred. Their injuries were not known.
There were five fatalities between 6 p.m. Sept. 13 and midnight Sept. 15, including Thompson, according to the highway patrol.
As of Sept. 15, 513 people have died on S.C. roadways, compared to 582 deaths in the same time frame last year. Of the deaths this year, 57 were pedestrians.
