Brush fire damages homeless camp in Myrtle Beach

— A homeless camp caught fire in Myrtle Beach Monday night sending black smoke towards U.S. 501, said Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Ian Maxwell.

The fire in the woods off Robert Grissom Parkway near Executive Avenue in Myrtle Beach about 7 p.m.

Maxwell said there were several tents and lots of clothing in the wooded area that were damaged but no one was injured. The blaze consumed between an acre and an acre and a half.

The fire was extingushed by 7:30 p.m. and firefighters were performing overhaul to make sure the fire didn’t rekindle.
