MYRTLE BEACH — A Surfside Beach man was charged with two counts each of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1/2 mile of school, park, place of worship after police found marijuana in his car following a traffic stop late Thursday night, according to a release from the Surfside Beach Police Department.
The report says that Jarad Ratcliff appeared nervous and his hands were shaking after Surfside police pulled him over for a moving vehicle violation at 11 p.m. Thursday. Officers noticed a strong smell of what they believed was marijuana coming from Ratcliff.
One of the officers saw a large, clear plastic bag with what appeared to be marijuana in it that was visible in the vehicle’s exposed cargo pocket, the report said.
Subsequent searches of the vehicle and Ratcliff’s residence found a zipped bag containing $37,800 in cash and several weapons, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and additional marijuana with a total weight of more than one pound, according to the report.
