MYRTLE BEACH — Delays were reported on U.S. 17 Bypass at the Backgate because of a power outage in the area early Thursday.
Crews had restored the power by 8:30 a.m., but it caused some delays for motorists in the area because the traffic signals at S.C. 707 and Farrow Parkway as well as Palmetto Pointe Boulevard were not working.
According to Santee Cooper’s outage website, 3,350 customers were without power in the area along U.S. 17 Bypass and S.C. 707. The outage was reported at 7:22 a.m. Thursday.
During the incident, Myrtle Beach police Capt. David Knipes said officers were at the intersections directing traffic.
A fire on a utility pole is believed to have caused the outage.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
