A Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office captain was found dead while hunting in Georgetown County Monday, according to authorities.

James Nettles, 44, of Summerville was found by Georgetown County Sheriff’s deputies, said Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson.

Deputies responded to a report of a missing hunter off Ten Acre Road outside Andrews around 11:30 a.m. Monday, according to a report from the Georgetown Sheriff’s Office.

Nettles had gone hunting at 7 a.m. and did not respond to texts or phone calls sent by a friend, authorities said.

Deputies, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the Georgetown County Sheriff’s bloodhound team conducted a search Monday afternoon, the report said. The searchers found the man’s body around 4 p.m. in a heavily wooded area.

The cause of death remains under investigation.
