Area police will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints this weekend as part of an annual campaign to enforce drunk driving laws, according to authorities.
Troopers and local police will team up Sunday for a checkpoint near the state line in Horry County as part of the Hands Across the Border highway campaign, according to a news release from the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
The checkpoints are planned to begin Sunday and continue through the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to the release. Troopers with the S.C. Highway Patrol said increased patrols and checkpoints are aimed at deterring impaired drivers on the highways.
