— Coastal Carolina senior wide receiver Matt Hazel is one of 400 college players named to the Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List. A final 110 players will participate in the 65th Senior Bowl on Jan. 25, 2014 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium (Mobile, Ala.) on the NFL Network.

Hazel, the 2013 Big South Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, will look to join former teammate and current Carolina Panther Josh Norman (2011 Senior Bowl participant) as the only Chanticleers to play in the prestigious game, according to a university release. Norman and current Minnesota Vikings receiver Jerome Simpson are currently the only Chanticleers to play in one of the premier postseason all-star games. Norman (2011) and Simpson (2008) played in the East-West Shrine Bowl, while Simpson additionally played in the 2008 Hula Bowl.

Sammy Truett of Surfside Beach and partner Bert Atkinson of Charleston finished second for the second consecutive year in the South Carolina Mid-Amateur Four Ball Championship at Dataw Island Club this week.

They fell on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to JD Hoft and Jamie Manning after both teams finished at 13-under 131. In the playoff on the 557-yard par-5 18th hole, Truett and Atkinson both pulled their drives into a lateral hazard and Hoft made a 15-foot birdie putt for the win.
