MYRTLE BEACH — Horry County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a fugitive Tuesday with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Task Force, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Donald Eugene Byrd, 59, was arrested at a residence on 17th Avenue South in Myrtle Beach and was wanted by the Los Angeles Police Department for child stealing, the release said. Byrd took his 12-year-old grandson from the child’s mother’s home and has been on the run for the past two years.
The grandson was also at the residence and has been taken safely into protective custody, the release said. Byrd is currently in J. Reuben Long Detention Center awaiting extradition to Los Angeles.
