MYRTLE BEACH — A local doctor is planning to open an urgent care facility in place of the former Shamrock’s Sports Bar & Grill next month.
Dr. Ron Reynolds, who operates Beach Family and Urgent Care in Kings Festival Shopping Center, purchased the property at 2510 N. Kings Highway in April, said Reynolds’ wife Rosario, who also works at the urgent care facility.
“We’ve been looking for a location for a while, so when the opportunity came, we took it,” she said.
The facility is slated to open in mid September and the building has been under construction since shortly after it was purchased, Rosario Reynolds said. She said the office will relocate from Kings Festival to the new location, which is about 10 blocks north.
“We’ll be more exposed and we’ll have a digital [sign] so people will know we are there and everything we offer,” she said.
Shamrock’s was one of Myrtle Beach’s oldest sports bars and served as a hangout for politicians for many years, hosting events such as victory parties for Myrtle Beach elected officials and a campaign fundraiser for Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani in 2008.
The bar’s late-night exemption, which allowed the establishment to serve beer and wine after 2 a.m., was revoked in May 2012 after being in place for about a year and the business closed shortly after.
