Students head back to school this week, with classes at Coastal Carolina University beginning Monday.
Horry County Schools students return on Thursday while classes resume for Georgetown County and Horry Georgetown Technical College students Wednesday.
Prep pigskin kicks off
Ten of the 12 area high school football teams kick off the regular season this Friday.
Aynor, Carolina Forest, Conway, Georgetown, Green Sea Floyds, Loris, North Myrtle Beach, Socastee, St. James and Waccamaw are all in action in the annual “Week 0.”
Rollergirls host home bout
The Palmetto Street Rollergirls, a flat-track derby league, will host their next home bout on Saturday against the Carolina Bootleggers.
The event takes place at Dream Land Skating Arena, 4475 Privetts Road, near Conway.

Bowling Blast Off
The annual Bowling Blast Off and Kids’ Fest will take place Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. The event includes two free games of bowling and a free show rental for children, as well as games, prizes, giveaways, face painting and mascots.
Meet at the Waccamaw Bowling Center, 101 Gray Drive, west of Myrtle Beach, off U.S. 501 and River Oaks Drive.

50 years since March on Washington
Thousands are expected to participate in the anniversary of the March on Washington, which took place 50 years ago on Aug. 28, where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
