MYRTLE BEACH — Horry County police charged a Conway man after a woman’s foot was run over by a vehicle, according to a police report.
Roger Joseph Carter, 55, was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 3:52 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, according to jail records.
Horry County police filed the charges after a 28-year-old woman told officers that Carter got upset with her about 8 p.m. Aug. 6, held a machete to her throat while she held a small child. Police said Carter later sped away in his car, running over the woman’s foot.
A witness, a 39-year-old woman, told police she and the victim are living in a recreational vehicle and on the day of the incident Carter was there because he is friends with the property owner, according to the report. The witness said she was in Carter’s vehicle when the victim walked up to it.
The witness said Carter got the machete, got out of the car and held it to the victim’s throat while threatening her, according to the report. The victim was holding her 3-year-old child and the witness got the child out of harm’s way.
The witness told police that she was able to grab Carter’s hand and pull the machete away from the victim’s throat, according to the report. The witness said Carter got into his vehicle and the victim walked to the driver’s side.
The witness said Carter then sped backwards in the vehicle and the outside mirror hit the victim, which caused her to fall. The vehicle then ran over her foot, according to the report. The witness told police that Carter may have been upset because she refused his sexual advances.
Police were called to Conway Medical Center the next day where the victim sought treatment. Officers learned the victim’s ankle was broken and they noted she had scratches on her arms and bruises on her hands.
