MYRTLE BEACH — A man from the Pawleys Island community was charged Friday in connection with an armed robbery, according to a news release from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s investigators have charged Jamie Kareeme Simmons, 24, with armed robbery, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and kidnapping.
The victim was riding a bicycle down Waverly Road on July 22 at about 2:30 p.m. when three suspects jumped out of the woods and told him they wanted the bike, the report said. The victim told them they could have the bike, then one suspect presented what appeared to be a handgun and struck the victim in the face. The suspects then fled the scene with the bicycle, and the victim called 911.
As a result of the investigation, Simmons was identified as a suspect, the report said. He was taken into custody by the Drug Enforcement Unit and is being housed at the Georgetown County Detention Center. Simmons was assigned a bond of $85,000 for all offenses, including charges by the Drug Enforcement Unit.
