MYRTLE BEACH — A 19-year-old man and 21-year-old woman told police a man assaulted them while they sat on the beach watching the annual Perseid meteor shower, according to authorities.
The woman told officers she and the man were sitting on the beach in the area of Fifth Avenue North about 5 a.m. Tuesday when the assault occurred, police said.
Officers went to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center and met the victims.
While the man was being treated for a head wound and broken fingers at the hospital, the woman told police they were sitting on the beach and about 4 a.m. Tuesday a man approached them and offered to sell them marijuana, according to the report. The victims declined the man’s offer and he left.
The woman said the suspected drug dealer returned about an hour later and picked up a rock and hit the male victim in the head, which caused a large “deep gouge to the side of his head,” according to the report. The woman said the male victim put his hands up and the suspect hit him again breaking his fingers.
The woman tried to get away, but the suspect grabbed her by the legs and they fell to the ground, according to the report. The woman said she tried to fight the man and she punched him several times.
The suspect got up and ran away and the woman went to Ocean Boulevard and stopped a person passing by and asked for help.
Detectives are investigating the incident.
