— Murrells Inlet’s Zack Byrd won a Coastal Players Tour event Sunday at Shaftesbury Glen Golf and Fish Club.

Byrd shot 70 in the final round to finish at 138, a stroke ahead of High Point, N.C.’s Anthony Baker.

Litchfield Beach’s Derek Watson (68) and North Myrtle Beach’s Mark Wright (70) tied for third at two strokes behind.

College signing

Former Socastee High School basketball standout Travis Frye has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his career at Dakota College at Bottineau.

Frye, the 2011-12 Toast of the Coast Player of the Year, signed with the junior college – located in North Dakota less than an hour from the Canadian border – after spending a season playing at the S.C. Sports Academy in Garden City.
