Tuesday’s area sports briefs

— It was a successful day for the Cahill family, as all three Myrtle Beach brothers took home top honors at the South Carolina Junior Clay Court State Championships held at Greenville Country Club.

The 9-year-old Rivers Cahill won the boys 10s singles divisions, while Nolan Cahill, 7, finished fourth. The two teamed up to win the boys 10s doubles division.

Brother John Edward Cahill won five matches, including defeating the No. 4, 2 and 1 seeds en route to the boys 12s singles title.

Noah Johnson, or Myrtle Beach, teamed with Zachary Zhao of Florence, to win the boys 14s doubles.

Britton Bellamy of Myrtle beach also won the consolation championship in the boys 16s to finish fifth, and Taitiana Harrelson won the girls 12 consolation championship.


Boys 10s – Rivers Cahill (MB) defeated Lucas Acedvedo from Daniel Island, 4-2, 4-0

Doubles – Rivers Cahill and Nolan Cahill def. Luke Breci and Tip Price from Greenville, 7-5

Boys 12s – John Edward Cahill def. Brolin Dorsey (Anderson), 6-1, 6-1

Boys 14 doubles – Noah Johnson and Zachary Zhao defeated Blake Brown and Timothy Pitts (Greenville), 9-8

Area golf

•  Murrells Inlet’s Zack Byrd tied for 23rd in the Maine Open after shooting even-par 71-69–140 at Augusta Country Club.

Byrd earned $350.
