Myrtle Beach police investigate attempted purse snatching

— A 22-year-old woman told Myrtle Beach police that a man tried to steal her purse, but she and a friend were able to hold onto it, according to a police report.

The victim told officers that about 12:30 a.m. Thursday and was walking with another person, who wasn’t identified in the report, in the area of 14th Avenue South and Yaupon Drive when the incident happened, police said.

The victim said she was holding her purse and the other person was holding onto her when the man came up behind her and grabbed the purse, according to the report. The victim said the purse strap broke and the contents of the purse spilled onto the ground.

The victim said the robber then ran south on Yaupon Drive away from them, according to the report. Officers searched the area, but did not find the robber.
