North Myrtle Beach police are investigating a report that kittens were thrown from a moving vehicle on U.S. 17, said Pat Dowling, North Myrtle Beach spokesman.

A caller reported to authorities about 1:15 p.m. Friday that the vehicle was on U.S. 17 in the area of Ocean Creek and Risen Lutheran Church and had been seen throwing the animals from the vehicle, Dowling said.

Officers were still investigating at 4:45 p.m. Friday, but Dowling said the initial report had not been substantiated.

“There were kittens in the road, but we don’t know how they got there,” he said. “At this time it does not appear that somebody tossed them from a car.”
