A 20-year-old Myrtle Beach man was arrested early Wednesday in connection with a woman reporting she was choked because marijuana was missing from their home, according to a police report.

Aaron Sidney Smith, 20, was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature after officers were called about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to 1213 Ellington St., police said. Smith was being held at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Myrtle Beach Jail pending a bond hearing

A 19-year-old woman told police she had been choked and held inside a bedroom against her will by Smith, who got upset when he got home from work and couldn’t find his marijuana, according to a police report. The victim said when she tried to leave, Smith pushed a dresser against the bedroom door to keep her inside.

Smith initially told police the couple argued about missing money, but later told police it was over marijuana, according to the report. Smith said the victim yelled and cursed at him, but he did not admit to choking her.

The victim suffered marks on her neck, chest, arms, wrist, legs and shoulders, according to the report. Smith suffered a bite mark on his side.
