Socastee man sentenced to 17 years in prison in store robbery

— A 20-year-old Socastee man was sentenced to 17 years in prison after he was found guilty of robbing a gas station, according to the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Michael John Tompai, 20, of Socastee was found guilty of armed robbery in the Sept. 9 incident at the Kangaroo station at 6326 Dick Pond Road, according to authorities. Circuit Court Judge Larry Hyman sentenced Tompai to 17 years in prison.
