Letter | Tea party complaints about harassment are laughable

May 22, 2013

These “tea party” people are severely misinformed and lack basic common sense. They let extreme, ideologically driven talk radio and politicians like Michele Bachmann prey on and exploit their fears to the point of mass paranoia and doomsday prepping.

Am I supposed to feel sorry for you that you had to fill out some “extra” paperwork so you could avoid paying your taxes? I wonder why you got singled out in the first place?

Let’s see, you hate the government, don't want to pay taxes in general and hold up signs that basically say “screw the IRS” in front of an actual IRS building. If I put a gargantuan sticker on my car that says “screw the police” I wouldn't be shocked if cops pulled me over more often than other people.

The fact that these people seem to think they’re not politically motivated and do some communal good and deserve nonprofit status along with the likes of actual nonprofit organizations like the Red Cross is completely laughable. These are the same people who rail against food stamps and other government subsidies for poor people, yet aren’t they hypocrites by wanting “free stuff” from the government as well, like this tax exemption?
