Letter | Some steps in the right direction on adult businesses

May 22, 2013

The May 17 Sun News headline “Horry County seeks law changes” is very encouraging with regard to control of sex-oriented businesses. We are very proud of the county representatives who are working hard to obtain passage of appropriate laws to control these businesses.

It is unfortunate that the city of Myrtle Beach does not team up with the county in this important matter. The comment by the city's spokesman, Mark Kruea, that the city has no plans to update its ordinances, is the same mindset that our group experienced when presenting our petition against obscenity to Myrtle Beach, which was signed by about 1,100 locals and visitors.

We hope the county's efforts will be successful and that all Grand Strand leaders cooperate.
