Letter | High taxes down here? Give me a break

May 22, 2013

I have to laugh when people from the North have moved to the Grand Strand and complain about tax increases. I moved from the Northeast and my taxes are an eighth of what they were. Not to mention gasoline is 35 cents per gallon less, license and registration is less, less sales tax on the purchase of a vehicle and no automobile safety inspections.

I came here for the beaches, golf, low taxes and friendly people. I don’t like paying taxes as much as anyone, but give me a break. Many Northerners who have retired here came from states with strong unions, made good money, sold their home at a nice profit and have a pension and 401(k). If anyone should be complaining, it should be the locals who are not making a great hourly wage.

I’ll take everything I mentioned and include excellent city services. There is one city service I don’t get here that I was paying for up north: snow removal.
