Feed the Mailbox Today

May 10, 2013

A quick reminder:

Today is the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive sponsored by the U.S. Postal Service.

It’s one of the easiest ways that residents can help out the less fortunate in our area and certainly worthy of support. Many local agencies will be receiving food as a result of the drive. Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach, for instance, is receiving the food gathered by the main Myrtle Beach post office and the Carolina Forest post office. To participate, simply leave a bag of food next to your mailbox today. Your mail carrier will pick it up when they deliver your mail. It’s that easy.

While all food is welcome, Adrian Weatherwax, executive director of Helping Hand, made a good point about the day’s efforts:

“It is not a day to clean the old, half-used, outdated foods from your pantry,” Weatherwax emphasized. “A good rule of thumb is that if you don’t want to eat it, why should the less fortunate want to eat it?”
