— Police are investigating a woman’s death after her body was found near the Robert Edge Parkway about 4:30 p.m. Friday, said Sgt. Robert Kegler with Horry County police.

The woman was found with an apparent gunshot wound to the head after being spotted by a passerby on Green Village Drive and Sandridge Road which runs under the Robert Edge Parkway between the Intracoastal Waterway and S.C. 31.

The woman was not identified Friday. Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick said the autopsy would be performed late Friday. Those results weren’t available at press time.

Kegler said police are treating her death as a homicide investigation.

Old Sanders Drive, which turns into Sandridge Road was blocked to traffic for several hours.
