Horry County police charged a 26-year-old Galivants Ferry man after a 6-year-old girl told her mother that she was inappropriately touched by the man, according to a police report.

Benjamin Cook, 26, was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 9:27 a.m. Tuesday and remains there pending a bond hearing, according to jail records.

The girl’s 24-year-old mother told police she was giving the victim a bath when the girl reported the incident, according to the report. The girl told her mother the incident happened a month before while she spent the night with a friend of the family and the friend put her in Cook’s bed. The girl told police said she woke up to Cook pulling her pants off, but was able to get up and go to her friend’s bedroom, the report said.
