Local app creators to ring NASDAQ closing bell

— Local app creators who won a Foursquare contest earlier this year will be ringing the NASDAQ closing bell Monday in New York City.

Joe Clarke, Mikkel Green, Kevin Young and Mike Schroll -- the locals who created the winning “RewardBoard” app -- will join Foursquare’s head of platform, Akshay Patil to ring the closing bell at the NASDAQ MarketSite in Times Square.

The Reward Board, which won the 2013 Foursquare Global Hackathon in January, is an app aimed to motivate Foursquare users to “check-in” at venues such as restaurants, stores and attractions.

When a person checks in, it automatically posts on a monitor at the venue and a printer spits out a coupon for that user. The venue operator decides how often to issue coupons and what they can be cashed in for.

The group participated in the January hackathon at Cowork MYR off 21st Avenue North, a work hub that encourages collaboration and entrepreneurship.
