A man fishing in Carolina Lakes fled from an S.C. Department of Natural Resources officer Sunday evening leading to an extensive search along S.C. 544, according to a DNR spokesman.

The man was fishing in the Carolina Lakes development off of S.C. 544.

Robert McCullough, a DNR spokesman, said he wasn’t sure what caused DNR officers to ask for the man’s fishing license. McCullough said he believes the man has outstanding warrants, which caused him to flee.

Horry County police are assisting DNR in the search, police spokesman Sgt. Robert Kegler said.

The man had not been located as of 6:15 p.m. Sunday.
