Letter | Mark Sanford acting above the law

April 27, 2013

I’m amazed by the letters supporting Mark Sanford’s actions. I don’t think the man realizes that laws apply to him.

He is defending his trespassing charge by saying that he felt his son needed to watch a football game with his father. If only he had shown that much concern for his sons when he was standing in front of microphones, declaring that he had found his soul mate in Argentina, thereby ensuring that his sons (and his wife) would be embarrassed and face ridicule as a result of his actions.

Leaving one’s marriage to get involved with someone else is not uncommon, however there are better ways to go about it than disappearing for days and then making an announcement on national news. Mark Sanford seems to live in a world of his own, and if I were his fiancee, I’d be concerned that our marriage would create an opening for another “soul mate.”

The writer lives in Pawleys Island.
