Pub restaurant opens in former Pomodoro’s building in Myrtle Beach

— Smitty’s Pine Island Pub has opened in the former Pomodoro’s Trattoria & Bar building at the corner of Robert Grissom Parkway and Pine Island Road in Myrtle Beach.

The pub opened last week and is extending hours this week. Starting Tuesday, the restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 or 10 p.m., with bar hours continuing to midnight or later.

The restaurant serves fish, burgers, buffalo wings, specialty sandwiches and other classic American pub menu items. There’s also live entertainment.

The restaurant is owned by the same family that owns and operates Chef Smitty’s, which has been a staple at Coastal Grand since the mall opened nine years ago. Chef Smitty’s in the mall will remain open.

This will be the first sit-down, standalone restaurant for Smitty’s.

Chef Smitty’s briefly branched out to Inlet Square Mall in 2011, but closed because mall traffic wasn’t picking up as expected, said Gregg Smith, whose family owns the pub and Chef Smitty’s.

Smitty’s has been planning a restaurant concept for a few years, but was waiting for the right spot. Pomodoro’s closed earlier this year.
