Cutting spending just making it worse for our children

March 28, 2013

Our tea party friends love to spout off slogans that sound good until you stop and think about them. Here’s an example: “Current government spending is stealing from our children and grandchildren so we can live beyond our means now.” The real meaning is this: “I don’t want to pay taxes. I want to cut government spending so I can keep my money in my pocket so I can buy more things for me today.”

Just think about it: How are we protecting the future life of our children and grandchildren when we cut the very programs that will give them a better life in the future?

The tea party wants to cut funding for Head Start. They want to cut funding for the special educational needs of handicapped children. They want to cut food and nutrition programs. They want to cut public health programs. They want to cut public safety programs.

They want to cut programs that will provide a sound infrastructure for tomorrow’s world: bridges, roads, public transportation, electricity grids, air traffic control, clean air and water protection, public health, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security.

How will our children and grandchildren be better off without these?

The people who want to live beyond their means and don’t care about our children’s future are the people in the tea party. They have no sense of community responsibility. They just care about themselves. They are selfish and greedy.
