— A fire destroyed a Calabash, N.C., strip mall early Monday, according to authorities.

Fire crews were called about the fire at 12:20 a.m. Monday at the strip mall on Carter Drive, which is in the heart of Calabash, said Honey Shore, Calabash Fire Department spokeswoman.

When firefighters arrived they found flames shooting through the roof of 947 Bistro and Pub, which is formerly known as Nesbitt’s Bar and Grill, and the fire spread quickly and gutted the building, Shore said. Other adjacent businesses destroyed by fire include Head Hunter Barber Shop, Calabash Florist and Reflections Stained Glass.

Firefighters from Sunset Beach and Grissettown fire departments assisted Calabash firefighters in battling the blaze, but the small block of businesses were a total loss, Shore said. No one was hurt during the incident and fire investigators are searching for what caused the blaze.

Other departments who assisted during the blaze were Calabash EMS and Brunswick County EMS, who stood by at the scene, and Ocean Isle Fire Department which provided backup coverage for the area.
