A 2 percent cut? Horrors!

March 14, 2013

Re March 3 article, “Obama, GOP brace for next fight”

After reading Josh Lederman’s article, I became frightened as to the consequences of “the severe spending cuts” and “the still fragile economy” and the “potentially grave impact of the across the board cuts.” Gee! I didn’t realize that a 2 percent cut was so dangerous.

I read that everything will be affected, air safety, our military defense, Social Security, jobs, Medicaid. It almost seems like our government will come to a standstill. The poor will have to tighten their belts while the rich stand by and watch. Even the president had to leave Florida, where he was vacationing and playing golf with no other than Tiger Woods, and travel to Virginia to give the same message to the military.

I’m forced to cut back on my spending because prices seem to be rising on everything. I don’t like it and I can imagine how those people in Washington with the big staffs, lavish parties, airplane and foreign trips, big pensions and expense accounts have difficulty in finding places to cut 2 percent. Gosh! I agree, the solution is to raise taxes and let the rich pay and let’s think about cutbacks in spending next year or the year after.
