The S.C. Forestry Commission will burn 550 acres at the Hobcaw Barony on Thursday. The burn is scheduled to help reduce burn hazards and wildlife management. Hazard reduction burns reduce the amount of fuel in the area and helps benefit both plant and animal species in various ways. Forestry Commission public information director Scott Hawkins said in a press release that controlled burns are only conducted when weather conditions are favorable.
