Conway police are investigating an assault outside a bar near Coastal Carolina University where a man suffered multiple broken bones in his face and lost three teeth, according to a police report.

The 21-year-old victim told police he was at Tongy’s Smackhouse about 1:30 a.m. Friday when he saw one of his friends argue with two men in the parking lot of 117 University Boulevard at University Commons, police said.

The victim said he stepped in to prevent a fight and he was “sucker punched from behind” and that was the last thing he remembered until EMS officials were talking to him as they prepared to take him to Conway Medical Center, according to the report.

The victim lost three teeth, suffered three to four facial fractures, a fractured jaw that was wired shut and 30 stitches around his mouth, according to the report. The victim told police his friend said the men punched him and then kicked him several times while he was on the ground, unconscious before they ran to their vehicle and drove away.
