How does Hell make sense from either a religious, spiritual or ethical point-of-view?

The question in the headline is one I've grappled with for years. I've asked really smart people who know Scripture a lot better than I do. I've read what great theologians had to say on the subject.

I've prayed - and I've yet to hear a satisfying explanation that can reconcile a few things that don't seem to make any sense, at all.

Why would an all-loving God feel the need to create a place where most of his creation will be sent to rot away for an eternity? That's not punishment, and neither is it justice. It's barbaric torture.

No imperfect Earth-bound father would get away with doing that with any of his kids - no matter what those kids did or refused to do - yet we say this is what an all-loving, heavenly father does.

How does that make sense? Yet, to even question Hell's existence is to be labeled a heretic. Why?

This might be one of the questions we may explore a bit at 4:30 p.m. on April 1 at Lackey Chapel at Coastal Carolina University for this event, or in a follow-up one. Hope to see you there.
