Work on, like, you know, your elocution

Published: March 12, 2013

Grrrr. I just heard , you know, the worst use of the English language ever, like , you know, spill from the mouth of a lovely young country singer, Kelly something. I mean, like, she used those phrases, like, you know, over and over and they were, like, you know, so distracting that well, I lost the meaning of whatever, like, he was saying, like, you know, really, let’s see if we can’t come up with some different, like you know, “verbal crutches” for a change.

If the speaker was to sit down and write his thoughts on paper, I feel, like, quite sure, you know, that those phrases would not show up, like, in black and white. Years ago, a gal on in D.C. told her radio audience to put a quarter in a jar every time they said you know, like, you know, etc.

The writer lives in Pawleys Island.
