A Myrtle Beach woman was charged in connection with more than 3,000 lottery tickets being unaccounted for at a Conway area convenience store she managed, according to an Horry County police report.
Karen Francis Dayok, 46, was charged Monday evening with attempting to defraud the South Carolina Lottery and she was being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on $2,000 bond, according to jail records.
Horry County police charged Dayok after a district manager for the Kangaroo store at 1500 S.C. 544 reported on Feb. 8 that he had monitored Dayok for more than a month and noticed inconsistencies with lottery ticket receipts, according to the report.
The district manager told police that Dayok was the general manager and he suspected her of stealing lottery tickets when he realized that there were 3,300 tickets not accounted for at the store, according to the report. There were 11 lottery ticket books missing from the store.
The district manager told police he planned to have the S.C. Education Lottery Commission to investigate the missing tickets, according to the report.
