— U.S. Coast Guard investigators are seeking help in identifying the captain of a 50-foot Hatteras boat that was discovered in pieces off the coast of northern Florida on Feb. 24.

The boat, On the Weigh, was purchased in North Myrtle Beach and was believed headed to the Caribbean island of Aruba when it apparently ran into trouble. The Coast Guard has recovered the body of one of three Venezuelans believed to be aboard the boat. No other bodies have been found, despite an extensive search of the area where the wreckage was discovered.

The Coast Guard believes the captain’s first name was Larry.

Anyone with information about the captain is urged to contact Coast Guard investigators at 904-564-7511.

Contact STEVE JONES at 444-1765.
