MYRTLE BEACH — Work on two ramps near the intersection of Farrow Parkway and the U.S. 17 Bypass at the backgate continues as crews prepare for the next major traffic shift that’s expected by late spring or early summer.

Lisa Bourcier, Horry County spokeswoman, said the facelift drivers may notice on the S.C. 707 side of the construction all works toward that traffic shift.

When the two ramps are done, all southbound traffic on U.S. 17 will move onto those ramps. A similar shift happened in the summer of 2012 on the northbound side of the U.S. 17 Bypass.

Once all U.S. 17 Bypass traffic is using the ramps, construction crews will begin building the overpass that will help to remedy congestion in one of the busiest intersections in the Myrtle Beach area. The entire project is budgeted between $115 and $120 million and is expected to be completed in August 2014.
