Published: March 7, 2013

— A Myrtle Beach man was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly holding up a taxi driver with a gun and taking hundreds of dollars.

Danny Todd Johnson, 29, was charged with felony armed robbery and lodged in the Myrtle Beach Jail.

According to a police report, the robbery happened early Wednesday morning at the intersection of First Avenue North and First Avenue South, near Ocean Boulevard. Johnson was picked up by Diamond Cab and taken to the Polynesian Hotel.

The suspect went behind the office of the hotel and returned a few minutes, telling the driver to take him back to the Wayfarer Motel at 311 N. Ocean Blvd., according to the report.

Eventually, Johnson allegedly put a pistol to the driver’s head and demanded his wallet. He reportedly took $250 and the victim’s driver’s license.

Johnson told the driver that if he called the police, he’d come find him, according to the report. At that point, the suspect got out of the cab.

The driver went back to the cab headquarters and called police, who arrested Johnson just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday
