MYRTLE BEACH — An Aynor woman was arrested Saturday by Horry County police on allegations that she abused a three-month-old child.
Isabella Coons, 17, was charged with inflicting great bodily harm to a child and booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. She remains incarcerated under a $30,000 bond.
According to a police report, the victim was brought to the Medical University of South Carolina on Feb. 28 and doctors discovered the infant suffered several injuries that could have been child abuse, including three rib fractures that appeared to be old injuries.
An officer with the Department of Social Services went to the home and spoke with a gentleman who said the injuries were the result of the child falling out of a chair in the home, which led to the infant being taken to Conway Medical Center before being transferred to MUSC. The rib fractures were said to be the result of a car wreck that led to a speaker falling on the three-month-old.
