Horry County authorities are searching for information about the driver of a vehicle that crashed in the Green Sea community while fleeing from a trooper with the S.C. Highway Patrol, said Sgt. Jeff Benton with the Horry County Sheriff’s office.

Deputies were called to investigate the incident about 3:30 a.m. Sunday after the driver of the vehicle crashed into a ditch while fleeing the trooper, Benton said. The trooper, who is based in Marion County, attempted to stop the driver for a traffic violation, but the driver refused to stop.

The pursuit continued from Marion County into Horry County before the driver of the silver Camaro crashed at the end of Billy Mc Road at Olive Drive, Benton said. The driver jumped from the vehicle and ran into a wooded area.

Officers searched the area, but did not locate the driver, Benton said.

The sheriff’s office investigates any crash involving the Highway Patrol or if they are involved in a pursuit that ends in a crash, Benton said.

Anyone with information about the driver or the incident can call the Horry County Sheriff’s Office at 915-8578 and speak to Sgt. Jeff Benton.
