Robotics competition held in Myrtle Beach
The Palmetto Regional FIRST Robotics Competition will be held from Thursday to Sunday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, 2101 N. Oak St.
Horry County students make up nine of the 65 teams participating in the competition, which is free and open to the public.

30 businesses hiring at job fair
About 30 businesses and staffing agencies are scheduled to participate in a job fair Thursday.
Landscaping companies, the city of North Myrtle Beach, Home Depot, nursing homes and restaurant operators such as Divine Dining Group are among the employers that have signed up to participate.
Some of the available jobs are seasonal, others are year-round.
The job fair is set for 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Myrtle Beach Mall, 10177 N. Kings Highway. The event will be near the mall’s movie theater.
Job-seekers should dress appropriately and bring a resume if they have one. They don’t have to register to attend the free job fair.
Last year, the 30 participating employers accepted 1,346 applications and hired 17 people on site, according to the organizers.
Greater Burgess Community Association hosts county chairman candidates
All the candidates for Horry County Council chairman are scheduled to speak at the quarterly meeting of the Greater Burgess Community Association at 7 p.m. Monday at the South Strand Recreation Center.
Candidates will also take questions from the audience.
New member takes seat on Horry school board
The Horry County school board will meet at 6 p.m. to swear in new board member Jimmy Washington for District 3. The board also will consider approval of a District-wide Facilities Committee recommendation and land transactions.
