Westjet won’t succeed if prices stay high

Published: February 19, 2013

Last week the airport authority announced the arrival of Westjet and the fact that they were now going to fly into Myrtle Beach from Canada. The news release was talking about how many more people would now be flying into Myrtle Beach and how that would help the airport. I hate to spoil the party but Westjet is going to be a real disappointment for the airport for one reason and one reason only, the cost of a ticket.

I did a check Sunday and the price for a return ticket is pushing $800 including tax. From Toronto you can fly to Florida, England or many other destinations for half the cost, so don’t count on Westjet being the airports answer to passenger traffic.
