The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for northeast South Carolina, including Horry and Georgetown counties, because of Saturday’s snowfall, especially in the inland areas.

The weather service said many bridges and some roadways will be icy this morning as temperatures fall below freezing and winds gusts between 20 mph and 30 mph. A small craft advisory also is in effect for today, with advisory conditions possible Monday and Tuesday.

The snowfall, which started late Saturday afternoon, ranged from a dusting along the beach to accumulation of several inches in the Upstate, according to the weather service.

The quick moving weather system caused few problems in South Carolina. The first band of snow fell along Interstate 85 Saturday afternoon, dropping up to three inches of snow in Spartanburg. The second round started not long before sundown Saturday around Rock Hill and moved southeast to the Grand Strand. Up to four inches of snow was reported in York County, with an inch or two reported in places like Winnsboro, Florence and Bishopville and flurries reported north of Charleston.

The state Highway Patrol reported more wrecks than usual, but no serious incidents. No major power outages were reported, either.

The snow isn’t expected to stick around very long in the Myrtle Beach area, with sunny conditions and temperatures expected to hit the mid-40s this afternoon. There is no chance of precipitation today or Monday, but thunderstorms could move into the area by Tuesday. That precipitation won’t bring any more snow, however, because temperatures are expected to climb to the low 60s by Tuesday afternoon.
