Since Bikefest’s a disaster, how about something classy instead?

February 16, 2013

Ah yes, The circus is coming to town. Atlantic Beach made an announcement about their Bikefest. A vague reference to an 11 day run. A couple of different dates for a workshop discussion. This is from an irresponsible, confused town.

They have a mayor who was voted out of office and refuses to leave. They schedule council meetings and they are usually not well attended by council members. With many council meetings postponed, meeting dates changed and a local police force not functioning, it seems the self proclaimed Black Pearl has become the Black Sheep along the Grand Strand.

Key vendors of the motorcycle clubs do not travel here and set up shop as they do for the Harley rally. Atlantic Beach complained last year about not really making a great deal of money. Yet the great city of North Myrtle Beach must shoulder an enormous amount of overtime pay for public safety officers.

How about getting rid of Bikefest, classing up your area a bit, renting some bleachers for all your vacant lots, holding a chess tournament with your residents and challenging other towns? Or a Shakespeare Fest? Why not?
