Four charged in armed robbery
Four people were arrested Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday near Conway.
Malik Nasheem Dukes, 17, of Myrtle Beach, Ta-Quric Ariel Equan Gagum, 18, Jarrell Lorenzo James, 20, and Dennis Wade Schaefer, 19, of Conway are charged with armed robbery. Dukes, Gagum and James remain jailed at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Schaefer was released Thursday on $10,000 bail.
The men are accused of robbing a home on the 1600 block of Dunns Shortcut Road Tuesday, according to an Horry County police report.

Family displaced by fire
A fire Thursday afternoon displaced one Horry County family, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.
Units from four stations plus the Loris Fire Department responded to Sandy Bay Lane in the Gurley Community outside Loris about 12:30 p.m. Thursday where a mobile home was heavily damaged by fire, said assistant chief Scott Thompson.
The cause of the fire was not immediately available.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrests
Two Pawleys Island men were arrested Thursday on drug charges following a traffic stop, said Carrie Cuthbertson with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.
Willie James Edwards, 32, is charged with trafficking heroin and resisting arrest. David Leland Yelton, 26, is charged with possession of heroin. Both men are being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center pending bond hearings.

Two wanted in armed robbery
Two armed men are being sought by Myrtle Beach police Thursday morning in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at a convenience store, according to a police report.
Officers were called about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to the Circle K at 6501 N. Kings Highway for an armed robbery, police said.
When officers arrived they learned from the store clerk, a 23-year-old man, that he heard the door chime go off and stepped out to see who had come into the store, according to the report. The clerk said two men forced him behind the counter and demanded he open the cash drawer.
The clerk said one man had a gun and the robbers took money from the register and safe before they ran out of the store, according to the report. Detectives are investigating the incident.

Two charged following cellphone dispute
Two men were charged in a home invasion that started because a woman grabbed the wrong cellphone after visiting a neighbor, said Carrie Cuthbertson, spokeswoman for the Georgetown County Sheriff’s office.
Donnell Vereen and Lionel Bessellieu, both 32 of Georgetown are charged with first degree burglary and kidnapping. Vereen is also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime.Local

Woman honored for work with turtles
Betsy Brabson, of DeBordieu, was recognized at an international symposium for her work volunteering with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources surveying sea turtle nests, the agency announced Thursday.
Brabson was given the Ed Drane Award for Volunteerism. The award is named after the former treasurer of the International Sea Turtle Society. The award is given to a volunteer who commits a significant portion of time, energy and passion to the conservation of sea turtles and does not seek academic or monetary credit.
