— An Horry County grand jury indicted an 18-year-old Conway man on felony driving under the influence charges in connection with a fatal crash on U.S. 17 near Surfside Beach, according to court records.

Jordy Wayne Calhoun, 18, of Conway was indicted on charges of felony DUI with death results and felony DUI with great bodily injury in the crash that occurred Sept. 22 on U.S. 17 Business near Pirateland Campground, according to indictments released Friday.

Calhoun also was charged with no driver’s license, vehicle required to be registered and licensed, and operating an uninsured vehicle. He has been held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $50,000 bail on the DUI charges and bond was not set on the other charges.

Calhoun was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee and left the northbound lane of U.S. 17 Business, crossed the grass median and struck a van head-on in the southbound lane, according to S.C. Highway Patrol troopers.

A passenger in the van, Wesley Samuel, 52, of Columbia, was killed and four other passengers in the van were taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Both vehicles overturned.

Calhoun and a passenger were taken to Conway Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.
