Police investigate early morning shooting

Myrtle Beach police are investigating a man being shot early Monday, according to a police report.

Officers were called about 1:20 a.m. Monday to the 900 block of Crimson Street near Acline Avenue, off Mr. Joe White Avenue, for gunshots being fired, police said.

When officers arrived they found a blue mountain bicycle in the road and next to the bike were two bullet casings, according to the police report. Officers learned a 31-year-old man, who was the victim in the incident, was two streets over at a home on White Street.

When officers arrived at that home, the victim was being treated by EMS and was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

Myrtle Beach police Capt. David Knipes said the victim was shot in the hand and side, but his injuries were not life-threatening.

Police continued to investigate the incident.

Blaze burns abandoned home

Horry County Fire Rescue crews battled a blaze Monday morning at a single family building off S.C. 905 outside of Conway, according to Assistant Chief Scott Thompson.

The fire was reported along Ole Pireway Road at S.C. 905 about 11 a.m..

Fire crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the abandoned home, Thompson said.

Conway Fire Department assisted the Horry County crews, who were attacking the outside of the building consumed by fire.

Checkpoint set for Georgetown County

The Georgetown Sheriff’s Office will host a checkpoint by the Law Enforcement Network in Georgetown County on Feb. 22, according to information from Cpl Shannon Toole of the Myrtle Beach Police Department, one of the LEN leaders.

The checkpoint is scheduled on U.S. 17/Powell Road between 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Police, students plan cleanup in Socastee

Horry County police and Socastee High School students will team up to clean up the community on Saturday, according to Sgt. Robert Kegler.

The group will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the high school and then go into the community to clean up the area until 2 p.m., he said.
