Optimism | Motel worker’s kindness saves the day for visitor

Published: February 7, 2013

Jan. 18, my family and I planned to meet at Myrtle Beach for the weeknd.

I'm an 81-year-old greatgrandmother who sometimes overestimates her abilities. I drove from New Bern, N.C. to Myrtle Beach with no problem. I started looking for 1400 N Ocean Blvd.. I did not realize there is a N and S of Myrtle Beach proper.

I drove these beaches for at least two hours stopping several times to ask directions. I was in tears when I stopped at a small motel in the 1600 block of S. Myrtle Beach. The young man there was so kind. He tried to phone the Tower I was looking for. No answer. I knew my family would be worried. Finally he said, “I'll take you there. Follow the red truck when I drive from the back.”

He took me there, got out and shook hands with my son, who was in the parking lot looking for me. and drove off.

I want the people of Myrtle Beach to know what this fine young man did. I do not know his name or the name of his motel. I hope he will see this letter and know how very much I appreciate his help.
